Freelance Writers and AI: The Challenges We Face

Like many freelance writers, AI technology is our friend and foe. On the one hand, it helps correct our grammar and spelling and optimize our content, but it can write for us too. While some content writers embrace this idea, as it can save time and effort when you have a lot to write, many create blog posts and articles without it. The biggest concern among many of us is how AI can, and likely will replace what we do for a living, which is understandably concerning.

When you write for a client, agency, or business, especially for the long term, it can seem disheartening when your work is suddenly flagged as “AI-generated.” Why does this happen? Many people who hire writers either decide to try AI instead or they prefer human writing and want to ensure that’s what they’re getting. So, what happens when authentic, human-constructed sentences, paragraphs, and articles are scanned with the results “likely generated by AI”?

If you’re asked if you’re using AI, what can you do? I was determined to find out why several of my writing pieces were showing AI-generated, as they were not. It became a suddenly stressful, unexpected moment of concern and frustration. So, I downloaded three different AI-detector tools.
