Thinking About the Future for Our Kids: A Few Thoughts from a Gen X Parent of Gen Zs

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the future of the next generation and the challenges they face over the next few years and beyond. On the one hand, there are many benefits Gen Zs have with advanced technology, infinite social networking, and seemingly unlimited career opportunities, though the increasing cost of housing, specifically home ownership, and steeply climbing cost of living present major roadblocks to success.

Financial Stability and Generational Wealth

Getting ahead can be challenging unless you’re from a family with the financial means to help you buy a first home, invest in a post-secondary education, and support you during rough times. It wasn’t long ago that hard work and just one full-time job could boost your financial situation to homeownership and overall stability. Hard work used to pay off, right?

Today, more than a dual income of two full-time jobs is needed, but many people are picking up side gigs and extra work to afford necessities. What happens when you have a student loan, payments become challenging to make, a broken down car, or other unforeseen expenses that set you back?
